It is not that women want the seat down but that men want the seat up that is the problem. Women have to have the seat down. Men don't have to have the seat up. So if a man puts the seat up he ought to have the courtesy to put it back down. After all, he just pissed in front of it getting it unsanitary on the bottom. If he puts it down he can wash his hands and be gone. The women on the other hand comes in with the seat up and has to touch the pissy seat before she uses the toilet. That is wrong.

This is an age old question.
Let's first define UP and down... no... I'm NOT kidding...
There are three states:
1) Closed: "sitting ring" and LID down
2) "Woman's Position" - Lid up... Sitting seat down...
3) Both up... in the Man's Peeing Position.
My ex wife considered DOWN - in position #2
My first wife considered DOWN - in position #1
Obviously... the civilized thing to do... after use is to FLUSH and put it in position #1.
However, as I said some women WANT them in position #2. Why? Well particularly if it's a private toilet where guests is not likely to use it... It's quicker for her.
Most women I know... will not use a store bathroom, so their PEE URGE is more urgent when they finally get home... and that extra second if it's not in the SECOND position... could be a problem.
Also... in the dark of night Position 3 will get you STUCK and position 1 will make a mess if you don't realize it's not in position 2.
I think define it in 3 states... Leaving it in state 3 is never good. (although it's the most convenient for the man)
Now ask your woman... do they want LOOKS or FUNCTION. And THAT'S what you do.

No, because its true position is down. What's behind me: The toilet manufacturers, and the law!
The Law of Gravity.

No because everybody has to use it in the down position at some time. It should also have the lid down. You don't want animals or kids playing in it. You also don't want to reach in to get something out that has fallen in.

In feng shui if you leave the toilet seat up, all of your money goes out, if it is down, your money stays.
