Gold dug from mines is used for industrial use. The gold you're wearing is man made. An 8 caret ring proberly had 75%mercury & 25% gold. The higher the caret the more gold. Some people are allergic to mercury & an 8 caret ring will turn their finger black. As you proberly know, too much mercury is bad for the body. NOT trying to say that cheap jewerly is bad for you you're unlikely to get ill from wearing it.

Gold should be totally safe to wear and there should be no chance of any sort of reaction to it. If the ring is really wide then there is a possibility of fungal infections and irritation.
It really depends on what the man is doing. If for example he is doing manual jobs in engineering then wearing a ring could lead to his hand being caught in machinery or the like and could therefore result in serious injury.

I am not a MD but from my point of view I think Its ok for a man to wear a gold ring as long as it is a simple and in style. Just my own view :)

shouldn't be a problem -as gold is one of the 'noble metals', which dont react too much with things. unless you have an allergy to a specific metal...
