Run your finger over the diamond. If the diamond is smooth and your finger slides easily, it's not a diamond. If your finger kinda of grabs the stone and kinda sticks, it probably is a diamond.
A diamond will stick to grease such as the oils on your finger. If you are not experienced at this, the best bet is to take it to a jeweler.

There was always the see if it will scratch glass technique, but I am not positive if that is even accurate. Just take it to a jewlery store and they have a tester they put up to it and it knows immediately. Pawn shops also.

The jewlers tend to look at it with one of those monocle magnifying glass thingys.
If you really wanted to you could look at its atomic structure under a super microscope and see if it is a 3D Latice, if its not, its not a real diamond.
But its probarbly just better to take it to a trust worthy jewlers and asking them to look at it for you.

you get a certificate of authenticity. if in doubt, take the certificate to another jeweller. if it fake (they will know), then you can sue for false advertising or something.
