The BBC didn't call us arrogant. They REPORTED the results of a poll that found that Brits find us arrogant, materialistic and self centered. I hate to burst your bubble, but lots of people in the civilized world see us this way. As a whole the British are far more polite than the average American. I'm American and lack of civility in our country is pretty appalling. The latest polls of the American people indicated they KNOW they have become very rude and arrogant.. Not only do the Brits think poorly of us as a society, we do to. If you get a chance to travel abroad, you'll see that most Americans come off as bozos. In comparison, the Brits know how to behave. We have a lot to learn from the Brits and some other Europeans. We deserve all the bad press that we get.about our attitude.

We allow freedom of speech in our country, everyone is entitled to their opinion whether we agree with them or not.

As far as being accused of being arrogant, "Am Not!!!" Joke.
You have to look at who people outside our country see as examples of Americans, mostly through the media. Without getting political and dropping names I can see why people could develop the idea of our arrogance.

I'll give you an example of media portraying others in a certain light: In America, based on what I've seen, the French hate Americans, are rude, snobby, eat cheese and drink wine all day and according to a recent IHOP commercial dress poorly wearing horizontal striped shirts and have weird looks on their faces. In reality and in meeting some French people they were nothing like the stereotype the media fed me.

In conclusion, the BBC or anyone else can have their opinions but should make an effort not to lump others all under the examples of a few representatives, but of course that would not make good news reporting.
