Employers look for (In this specific order) - 1) Good Looks 2) Qualifications 3) Experience - But it's a well known fact that good-looking people with less qualifications and experience more often than not get a job before the not so nice looking folks with the experience and qualifications - So ultimately, I think employers look for eye candy first and foremost!!!

What Employers look for: Interviewing Essentials


Did you know that the three things that employers look for that always rank in the top ten have nothing to do with your experience, background or education? Enthusiasm, interest level and attitude are consistently rated on top. The others you already have or you wouldn't be in the interview in the first place.

So this begs the question, how do I demonstrate these qualities in an interview? Well, actually, most interviewers will ask you questions to find these out.

For instance, a very popular question is "Tell me a little bit about yourself." If the person being interviewed understands what the interviewer is looking for, they will know not to talk about personal things like where they were born or when they moved to Chicago. The reason for this question is to find out how focused (interested) you are in the field or position.

A good example of this would be if someone asked a job candidate this question and they were interviewing for an accounting position - a focused answer would be: "I first became interested in accounting when I was in high school. I have always been good with numbers and am a very organized and detail-oriented person. I took some accounting courses in college and really enjoyed them. And, I did very well. So, I majored in accounting, did an accounting internship and when I found this advertised at the Career Center, I applied for it."

If you are in a field that you have a passion for, most of the time your enthusiasm will show through automatically. Other things you can control can demonstrate these qualities such as maintaining eye contact and asking questions as you proceed through the interview and especially at the end.

Paying attention and sitting up straight will show the prospective employer that you are interested as well. You would be surprised how many students/graduates don't do this.

Researching an organization before you interview is extremely important. It gives you a foundation of knowledge that allows you to better navigate though the interview when discussing the company and the position.

It also helps when/if they ask you, "So, what do you know about us?" And this is often the case. Not having an answer or not knowing anything about the company can be a good way to eliminate you from the process.

Finally, a positive attitude will take you far in a job interview. Nothing turns a recruiter or interviewer off faster than someone who badmouths anybody, thing or place. Nobody wants to work with a negative person.

So when they ask you about the worst job, class or boss you ever had, think like the glass is half full. Hopefully, you can think of something you learned as the result of having met or experienced anybody, thing or place.

Employers are more concerned about the candidate's confidence, his personality to match with their organization,grip over the concerned subject matter & whether or not the candidate would be in a position to sort out & face the problems of the job.

So you must present yourself in a formal dress,have a smile on your face (not always),develop a pleasing personality,develop your vocabulary & General Knowledge and have good grasp over your qualifications (you need not be an expert).Finally let your confidence flow & PLEEEEEEEEEEESE bo not bluff your interviewer.If you do not know something ,be honest to say so.Thus the saying "honesty is the best policy" is still loved by the employers.

Respect.Every employer first looks whether the employee has respect for the position he has been called for.To know their intentions positive way of approach,respect to others are mostly seen.Hence,candidates almost in every interview appear neatly dressed and put on a tie.Tie is a mark of respect to the person we meet.Its not just a show piece.

By the end of the interview you need to feel that you trust the candidate, and have confidence that they will be good at the job and worth any investment you make in them.

Motivation (as in how much do you want the job.)
Knowledge (how much do you know about the company)
Assertive and pleasant behaviour (do you signal loyalty and willing to become a "team-player"
Self confidence (how you carry yourself)
Good qualifcations (for the job at hand, do you have what it takes)
Willing to learn? (not just being settled with what you already know...and expect people to see you as an expert)

...and in that order, too :)
