yup there's been damage all right
but don't worry, its nothing that cant be fixed. or can it?
ask yourself do you really want to have that friendship again? obviously he has made it clear that he doesn't want any "personal" relationship with you. the question is. if you were to "patch" things up. Will everything be the same? will the trust be restored as it was before? in my opinion the answer is no, it will not be the same. and if you really think about it, maybe his friendship is something you WANT but you don't really NEED.
Am i implying that you avoid this person ? no , no and a thousand No's.. all am saying is now that you know where you stand. show him that you are mature enough to accept that you perhaps did mess it up, and by the same token are mature enough to take the initiative to fix up the situation at hand.
TAKE INTO CONSIDERATION THAT THIS IS ONLY MY OPINION, AND ITS BASED ONLY ON THE FEW DETAILS AND OR FACTS THAT YOU PROVIDED.
best of luck!
