how do i get extra points?

i loked at the points table and it said you can get a few thousand by Be the first to find out! how do i do that and this Be eligible to be a Featured User on the home page masthead?? thanx

You need the few thousand points, and then you're the featured user.
so keep answering questions. that's the way you get the most points.
aim for getting a few best answers, they help even more.
asking questions subtracts points, by the way...
but choosing a best answer adds a few of those points back!

You are not reading it correctly.

The table you are looking at doesn't tell you that you can earn points, it tells you what you can do when you get to a level and how many points you need to get to that level.

For example:
If you look at the third line, you can read it like this:

If you have 5000-9999 points, you are level 5. Being level 5 you are "eligible to be a Featured User on the home page masthead."

This doesn't mean that if you are a featured user, you get 5000 points, but if you have 5000 points you are ELIGIBLE to be a featured user.

normally you get just 2 points when you answer but if you answer the long one you will get like 3 ponits.

Or if you're choosed to be the best answer you will get the 10 points.
