Isn't it crazy? Do you know how many events and offices have changed their names to make them sound more classy? Janitor was changed to something and I liked calling our school janitor a janitor because he was so wonderful. His professional name was considered an honor because he worked hard for the school and greater for the students. Why change the name?
Domestic engineer? I loved being a housewife. Isn't it crazy?

Because they are promoted to high school. Graduations have been getting ridiculous over the years. With Limousines, balloon, screams, shout outs, and expensive suits and dresses.
Not to mention the luncheons.
Many districts are talking about doing away with 8th grade graduations because of this.
In Chicago, most 8th graders failed the ISAT test, when this was the first year that they gave it. Before that, it was the IOWA test. Two different kinds of testing, the latter more difficult.
You would think that's bad enough, but then the board had already taken Math off as a promotional criterion for 2 years, so sure. Why not give them a harder test, when they finally decide to bring it back on for promotion?
It's true the School Boards are making it more difficult for students to graduate, but the parents don't make it any better by spending needless amounts of money to keep up with the Joneses. It's no wonder the kids are confused.
So now through all of that, students are promoted if they can go through those gauntlets,
because the graduation ceremonies, that were intended to be solemn occasions, have turned into irreverent showcases.

Did they really graduate from anything? If I walk away from my 8th grade graduation, can I get a cup of coffee? Does anyone not make it in 8th grade?
We need to realize there is more to life than social promotion and middle school education.
