Pangandaran is a small town and a sub-district (kecamatan) in southern Ciamis regency, West Java, Indonesia. It is located on the southern coast of Java. Pangandaran is a popular tourist destination, having a beach which is considered to be one of the finest in Java and which offers excellent surfing.

A kite-flying festival is held on the beach in July and August. It is reported that the locals used to fly kites in the evenings to catch bats,[1] and may still do so. [2] There is a local belief that wearing any green garment in this area will anger Loro Kidul, the Javanese guardian spirit or goddess of the southern sea, and will bring misfortune.

The small national park of Penanjung Pangandaran is nearby on a peninsula connected to the mainland by a narrow neck of land. About eighty percent of the park is secondary rainforest. The flora of the park includes the Rafflesia.

A tsunami hit the area on 17 July 2006. An undersea earthquake measured at 7.7 on the Richter scale triggered a three metre high tidal wave. Extensive damage was caused and hundreds of people were reported to be dead or missing.

Lord, we mourn the death of our dear one. Our loss makes us lonely, at times critical, and sometimes even rebellious against You. Forgive us our sins. Increase our faith in Christ, who is the Resurrection and the Life. As the wages of sin is death, so Your gift is eternal life through life, death, and resurrection of Your Son, our Savior.
By Your mercy make our dying here become our entrance to life eternal with You. Since we are members of the body of Christ, we are certain that when we leave this world we will be reunited with our loved one in Your presence in heavenly joy. Give us the ability to reflect this conviction in our lives.

We have not forgotton he Tsunami victims of Indonesia. I haven't heard specifically of Pangandarin, but I've heard of Aceh. I pray for the whole region.

always pray for pangandaran, not only pangandaran but also Yogyakarta (my home), klaten, aceh (lot of them still homeless) and other places and country where people are having disaster being hurt by eiter nature or other people... i'll always pray for them, lets pray (also help) for them...God help them...
