depends on the car but you could check the following
fanbelt . may be loose or need replacing
brake pads . will kinda squeak if worn
clutch . may need adjusting or at the worst replacing.
Rev the engine when idling if the noise gets worse probably fanbelt. If it worsens when changing gear , clutch. or obviously brakes if it occurs when braking.
All else fails turn the stereo up that always works

If it's while you're turning, it's the C V joints.
Better have that checked out ASAP.
The C V joints connect the wheels to the axle. If they break, it would result in the wheels breaking away from the axle.
That is dangerous.
You would definitly wreck and if you were driving fast, it could result in a fatal accident.
If this occurs when you apply the breaks, then you probably need new break pads.
Oh, No.
I just now read, that it's worse when you turn corners.
It's probably the C V joints.

(very sad) The constant Velocity Joint connects the TRANSMISSION to the Rotor or DRIVE wheel & the wheel won't fall off if the CV joint breaks - YOUR vehicle will just coast to a stop.IF the wrong end breaks the shaft could drop down & cause REAL problems.THEY usally make a loud clicking noise when the steering wheel is turned & under hard (or fast) acceleration !

If it sounds like nails on a blackboard then it is probably rust in your brake discs. Happens to mine all the time. Doesn't do any harm. If you are concerned, the garage can just clean them out for you.
CV joints make a whirring noise if they are wearing out.

IT COULD BE LOTS OF THINGS.
stones caught behind the brake disc back plate can be horrendously noisey - are they resurfacing the roads in your area?

When you turn, sounds like cv joint, or worn brake pads.
