It was a fictional martial art invented by 'The Goodies' (Tim Brooke-Taylor, Graeme Garden and Bill Oddie) TV show in the '70's around the time when there was a great interest in Kung Fu. Bill revealed himself to be a Grand Master of the infinitely more subtle and superior Lancastrian martial art of Ecky Thump.

'Ecky Thump' comes from the nothern english expression 'By Heck'. Part of the martial art was the use of a large Black Pudding (not a Cumberland sausage) as a weapon.

It was only shown in one episode of the series during it's fifth season. The series is also memorable for a giant kitten climbing the Post Office Tower, clones of Rof Harris, and a clown virus.

While watching this episode during its original airing, a 50 year old man named Alex Mitchell could not stop laughing for 25 minutes and then died from the strain it put on his heart. This is probably the most well-known incident of someone actually dying from laughing.
