First, we aren't called "gothics". We are called "goths" Gothic is an adjective to describe something ("That skirt is quite gothic").

Gothic isn't about wearing all black, and dyeing your hair black. It's about individuality of the person in question, and how one expresses oneself.

So yes, a goth can have blonde hair. And she doesn't have to wear all black clothing... she can actually wear baby doll pink, if she is so inclined.

Yes, Gotland is an island off of the coast of Sweden. It is the origin of all things Gothic. Many Swedes have blonde hair, so yes, Gothics can have blonde hair! Instead of wearing black, Gothics should wear woolen tunics, chain-maille hauberks and should recite Beowulf instead of Nine-Inch Nails. They should carry spears as opposed to black nano-iPods.

Gothics dress after witches. There are witches all over the world, including Sweden, Norway and Germany. Do you think all of those women are willing to paint their hair black?

Some might talk about the "rules" concerning Goth lifestyle... ("You're not REALLY Goth, etc") - but the whole point of being part a subculture is NON-conformity, even within the group in which you belong. It's more a state of mind then a statement of fashion. The object is to be you!

Hahahahahah...oh gravey...Yes goths can have blonde hair, no hair, black hair, pink hair, long hair, short hair, curly hair, straight hair, wavy hair, hairy hair, whatever...just please no mullets.

Wearing black is something of a uniform...but it's not mandatory. "Gothiness" comes from within, it's how you are, it's how you think about and interact with the world. You don't have to dress the part, but it makes it easier to pick you out so I bum a clove off you (yah, bad joke).

they can...

but would they?

sure, just as a preppy catholic school-girl might have black hair.

why... is there a stereo-type that dictates that only little girls in pink mini skirts that carry around little mutts in oversized purses can have blonde hair?
