If they had boy names they would be "Himicanes"

Actually they go through the alphabet, and use both male and female names since 1978. the link below explains the system

Not all hurricanes or typhons carry only female names.

The system of naming storms did not come about until after WWII. Before then storms were designated by their date or the proximity to a holiday. Then the military when they were in charge of keeping the eye on the storm, would define the storms by numbers and classifications. At some point in time, close to 1950-something, the storms were named strictly woman's names as there is nothin' like a woman scorned...she flies through like a tornado...blah blah blah. I believe that system changed in 1970-something to include an equal mixture of male and female names and a proper system of how to handle naming the storm, due to the woman's movement and someone asking that very question before ya'.

Most of the big name storms that have been retired have been female names because of the 20 year headstart, however recently, there have been quite a few male names that have found a way to garner their infamy aswell.

Katrina, Camille, Elaina
Ivan, Andrew, Charlie

There are others, I just didn't want anything thinking Hurricanes are only named after women, as they are not.

As a meteorologist who's big interest is hurricanes _illyanna got it right they starting naming them. After a little research they started named the storms all female names in 1953 before that they had a list of words that they used every year. In 1979 they started to add male names into the mix. The first male storm was Bob and he made land fall here in SE Louisiana. Any other questions just email or IM me.

An Australian named Alfred Clement Wragge introduced the idea of naming hurricanes and he used women's names. People say that they were women he hated, but in 1970 male and female names have been alternated.

I'm not sure but I don't think they do, anymore.
I paid attention and it seems the names female/ male alternate.
I mean if hurricane A is a female, huricane B will be a male, and so on.

They don't, when naming hurricanes the meterological office make their way through the alphabet, alternating between boys and girls names (e.g. Andrew, Beatrice, Charlie, etc...). It just so happens that most of the ones that wreak all the havoc are girls :P

They don't Women complained that naming them soley after women was bigoted, or something. Now a black legislator is complaining because the storms AREN'T given ghetto names.

Go figger.
