A large water tank has two inlet pipes (a large one and a small one) and one outlet pipe. It takes 2 hours to fill the tank with the large inlet pipe. On the other hand, it takes 6 hours to fill the tank with the small inlet pipe. The outlet pipe allows the full tank to be emptied in 8 hours.

What fraction of the tank (initially empty) will be filled in 1.38 hours if all three pipes are in operation? Give your answer to two decimal places.

The large inlet pipe will fill 1.38/2 of the tank in 1.38 hours.
The small inlet pipe will fill 1.38/6 of the tank in 1.38 hours.
The outlet pipe will empty 1.38/8 of the tank in 1.38 hours.

Thus, the remaining amount will be:
1.38/2 + 1.38/6 - 1.38/8 = 0.7475

Thus, only 0.75 of the tank is filled, or to be more specific, only 74.75% of the tank is filled.

In one hour the tank fills=(1/2)+(1/6)-(1/8)=13/24
So in 1.38 hrs tank fills =1.38*13/24=0.7475, approx (3/4).

The answer is 1.38(1/2+1/6-1/8)=0.7475. upto second decimal it is 0.75. that is 75% or 2/3rd.
