I used to live in Englewood and liked it very much. Vandalia is also nice. Stay out of Trotwood and the Salem Road corridor. The high crime rate is ridiculous in the area, to the point where most of the businesses in the Salem Mall have closed.

Good luck with your move.

Hmm trying to think..........most of the upscale neighborhoods are in the south or east parts of town. (Oakwood, Centerville, parts of Beavercreek.) There are some nice old homes in the Trotwood area, but it's a very mixed area. Some nice some very bad, high crime areas. Englewood or Vandalia are decent middle class areas. I think you'll most likely find what you're looking for in Oakwood or Centerville, even though it's a little farther commute. Stay out of the Dayton city limits, epecially if you have school-age kids. Their schools are awful.

NOTE to exbuilder: Apparently you've moved from the area. The Salem Mall finally died and is being torn down. They're going to redevelop that area but I'm not sure on the specifics.
