We know heat travels from the Sun to Earth simply because we can feel it when the sun rises and the temperature increases.

Radiation from the sun is reffered to by us Geologists as INSOLATION.
Incoming - Solar-Radiation

Insolation is both long and shortwave radiation covering every part of the electromagnetic spectrum from Gamma Rays - Infrared-Ultraviolet - Heat - radio waves.
Heat is just a form of energy RADIATED from an energy source to everything else.

Its almost impossible for criminals to hide from infra red scanners because the heat in their bodies is continuously produced and as they attempt to evade the police their bodies only get hotter and hotter since they are expending more energy.

I do believe however if you immersed your entire body in mud, or another heat dissipating substance you would be able to beat an infra red scanner.

1. the surface of the sun is always a place for radiation. it's about 6000 celcius degree hot. its radiation disseminate in the space and therefore, do not miss the Earth. radiation creates heat.

2. it's a property of infrared that it cross almost anything but lead. so with an infrared machine, no one can hide anything
