I'm not, and never will be patriotic. I don't think people understand how patriotism makes us look so arrogant. Why can't we just support our PLANET instead of dividing certain lands, and then calling them our own, and sticking a flag on it, and being proud? That's so pathetic to me. I will also not support a country that doesn't support me. Until gay marriage is legalized nation-wide, and there is a distinct separation of church and state, I will not be patriotic.
When a massive asteroid approaches the earth, how will "patriotism" help you then? Support our WORLD, not our little continent surrounded by water, and "owned" by a group of people.

We are at a difficult time right now with the war and American's opinions on it. But I know my husband and I, both military, have always been and always will be proud to be an American. That's why we do what we're doing.
I don't think it's very American to be unpatriotic. It's a shame it takes something as drastic as 9/11 to bring out the patriotism in us. But it does seem like America has forgotten lately. Shouldn't it be something that we have inside of us on an unconditional basis? Especially for the sake of our servicemen. No matter whether we agree or disagree, we do what we're ordered and we need our fellow Americans prayers, support and encouragement. That usually best comes through patriotism. It's like a smile - it's contagious.

I am patriotic. I love America, my country.
I'll put it this way.
I support my country before my government.
I support the constitution before the president.
I support our troops, but not the war.
I support freedom before I support safety.
I love America, but sadly I feel as if we are being duped, cheated and ignored. The patriot act is a disgusting abuse of power and a violation of our rights as U.S. citizens.
It doesn't matter how safe we are if we lose all the freedom's we were founded on.
I would rather die by a terrorist hand with every freedom the constitution protects, then to live a long life in a country size jail cell.
End the war
Legalize drugs
Restore the power to the people

I like... have this shirt that says America on it.
Ok, but seriously. I don't think it's a matter of fashion. I love the USA; it's a great home, but there are a lot of things about it that disappoint me. Unfortunetly patriotism often gets interpreted as absolute support for everything the country does.

"My country right or wrong" does not work for me. Yeah, I like being an American, and I support this country, its ideals, and its constitution.
Bush on the other hand is an idiot, and is ruining our reputation with the rest of the world, and his administration is more that slightly threatening said constitution.
So, um, take it any way you want to.
So, the Supreme Court does NOT have the right to review the "Under God" part of the Pledge of Allegiance for constitutionality.
Great, just great.
So am I patriotic or not?

I say, shame on you! You are to be pitied for feeling the need to lift your backside up to the rest of the world by talking down to your fellow countrymen.
Some of us do not have the resources to be world travelers, like you obviously do. Believe me, travel via the library or the web does enable us "ignorants" to be enlightened. How many European nations are willing to apologize for the horrendous atrocities that are still occurring in the world today due to their neverending "divide and conquer for economic gain" techniques that have made enemies out of countries such as Pakistan and India? What about the French and Belgiums in Rwanda? Ever hear of the Lost Generation? The list is endless...Are they politically savvy when it comes to these issues that our generation is still paying the price for and now have to clean up ourselves? The answer is NO, no and no they sure as hell are not.
As for you little girl, get your priorities straight and remember who you are and where you came from. I lost many family members to WWII. One was a POW trying to save France. Maybe you are young enough to join the corps. Maybe you could travel a little less and do something really helpful with the extra cash, such as donate it to humanitarian aid organizations. World travel has taught you nothing, but to disrespect your own self.
Patriotism is the love of one's country, nothing more nor less. No one told you that you have to like your president in order to love your country.

i think a lot of people want to be patriotic about America but it doesn't carry far enough to undo the general apathy most Americans show in regards to understanding politics ...the two party system has become way to corrupt on both sides its time to disband and start again with true equality and less of the bought politicians
wake up America your fast becoming a joke

Wow Psychotic up there has really lost his marbles. I wonder how seperation of church and state or gay marriage will help us from that killer asteriod... Get a grip man.
I am very patriotic, and it has been out of fashion for a long time. But there are more people here that love their country, then are concerned with being in fashion.

I love the USA, I just don't like were we are going with it currently. I don't like the fact that we are signing away our freedoms, because of terrorist threats. Some people love the USA like a 3 year old loves their mother. The USA is great and can do no wrong. Other people (like my self) Love the USA like a parent loves their child. They see great potential in their child, but also realize their child's capacities to make mistakes and they wish to correct their child. As far as comparing patriotism to a fashion trend *barf* I don't think of patriotism in those terms.

I love the USA. We have so many freedoms here, and we are so fortunate. I think many people don't realize how blessed we are in America. I show my patriotism by flying the American flag on holidays, by voting, and by supporting our troops. I hope patriotism isn't "out of fashion".

I love the United States as I love myself. Without the States I am nothing, without me the States are nothing. I show it by keeping involved with what goes on here and I really dont care if its fashionable or not. I dont do it to impress anyone, I do it because it gives meaning to an otherwise meaningless existence.
