Tannic acid is a waste product from the decay of trees, it is a mild acid which will not damage tissue but will discourage the growth of micro-organisms which would attack healthy tissue.

Picric acid is also an antibiotic, however it is also a very sensitive explosive!

Tannic and picric acids are very weak acids. They have anticeptic properties. The banana leaf sheaths are rich in tannic acid and phenols. The banana pseudostem pieces or banana peel are kept over the cut injury to cure the injury because, it has tannic acid, having anticeptic properties. The person suffering from multiple burns is laid on the banana stem sheath bed because, it contains tannic acid and phenols, acting as anticeptic agents and it gives coolness to the victim.
