Is it in the morning or in the evening? What type of work? Just be sincere in telling the truth why you want to go home early. It should not always be that way, otherwise, be on alert of your release papers. It is good to be honest.

Not sure if you have a car or not...but I take the subway home, so I usually tell my boss I have to leave early so I won't miss my train!

i will be leaving work early today because i realize that i spend my life at the grindstone. i work to pay bills for things i can't enjoy because i'm at work.
i will be leaving work early today because i just remembered that "life" is outside and i would like visitation rights.
so there you have it mr. boss man (or mrs. boss man) (yes. that was not a typo), please understand that for the sake of my sanity i will see you tomorrow same time. same freakin place.
