Log in as the Administrator. If its your computer, you should be listed as the administrator and should not have anay problem scaning the root directory.

download AVG free. update it and it will automatically scan even your root directory.

start pc in safe mode then run your anti virus. windows will not let you remove some viruses if the file is being used
