As you know, women are very sensitive about their looks. :) I have often had friends ask me how they look in a terrible outfit, or in a bad haircut, and it usually means they are concerned or self conscious, and need some assurance from someone they care about. A good rule of thumb is always to "accentuate the positive". You say something like.. "Wow, I really admire that you knew so much about your native culture, that was a very impressive collection of regalia! How did it make you feel? Did it put you in touch with your roots?" The best way to offset an uncomfortable question is to first pay a compliment ( a truthful one) then ask a question that opens more dialogue, it shifts the energy back in their court. If she still pressures you for a more direct answer.. you simply say something like.. you know I think you are beautiful all the time! Don't lie, that only hurts in the long run, but always be supportive, and don't damage people's egos! :) Good luck and Bright Blessings.. Lotus

If she asked you about it then she wants your opinion, tell her that you think she would look better in something else and that costume doesn't bring out the best in her.... and if you want to feel what she feels at the receiving end..well forgive me, but your spelling is terrible and you could do with some spelling practice. No offence, just my opinion :).

If anyone is so demanding i would care less about hurting her feelings but tell her the truth. Say you don't care much for ethnic costumes and you find her more attractive in her everyday atire.

Tell her that the costume really didn't suit her. And then maybe she'll tell you that you should be in remedial English classes, cause you spell like a 4 year old.

Its all pretending. If I had to do that stuff, I would pretend i was into it, even though it is a terrible idea.
Just like Martin Luther King day, we all pretend that what we do today is what Dr. King wanted, it isn't. If we really did what Dr. King wanted, making a color blind society, people would riot. So we all pretend.
It's all about pretending.

Well, you've already missed your chance of giving a tactful answer by making her wait. It's already going to be obvious to her that you had to wait because you were looking for a nice way to say it, so perhaps you should just be honest. BUT, make it about yourself not about her. "It wasn't my style," is a much better answer than, "you didn't look good."

it was only for one day . Lie to her..... Tell her it was nice. Well since she is demanding an answer by the end of the day and you could not tell her when she asked you. I think the point should have been taken when you could not respond when she first asked............

if it were me, i would like you to be honest with me. It brings nothing lying because she will eventually find out the truth. After all there's nothing worse than walking around, thinking you look good.

Just tell the truth. Women respect men who are honest more than anything. If she finds you have been lying to her, she will hate you.
