I'm looking for the nicest campground that will either be tent camping or cabins. I'm looking for a good deal, that will be by a lake, have good hiking, that is in Northern IL (not more than 2 hours driving from Chicago), please help me because i'm at a loss here.

Starved Rock. It's farther than 2 hours, maybe 31/2 or 4 hours, but it's worth the drive. Take I-55 or I-57 south to I-80 (if you're close to 55 take it, it's shorter.) Go west on 80 when you get towards Ottawa, start watching for the signs.
It's been a long time, so I'm not sure exactly which exit sorry.

Potato creek is in indiana, but it's less than two hours from chicago, and it's really nice. Otherwise, I always go to (I'm from south chicago) to Covert Park in Michigan, which is like 2.5 hrs.

There's a BUNCH of camp sites on the kankakee river about 1.5hr from south chicago, past joliet on 55. Look up Camping in Illinois and a state site should have all the state grounds.
