If you are talking about the computer's cache, it is the bits and pieces that the computer has downloaded from websites. By saving the images and pictures, it makes the next time you go to the site faster becasue the computer doesn't have to download it again. It is good until it gets to be too much, then it slows down the computer.

Cache: A special area of RAM that stores the data most frequently accessed from the hard drive. Cache memory can optimize the use of your system.

Cache memory:A special section of fast memory chips set aside to store the information most frequently accessed from RAM

You have two definitions of Cache

In a PC, cache is some very fast memory that is included inside the microprocessor chip. When something is accessed in the main (IE. SDRAM) memory, a copy is stored in the cache. When it is accessed again, the processor gets it from the cache instead of performing a much slower main memory read.

This idea is also applied inside hard disk drives, and by your web browser to make internet accesses faster.

I think Cache is the temporary data stored in the memory

the cache memory basically is a memory located in between the processor and the RAM. when the processor needs data from the memory and accesses it, it is temporarily stored in the cache. the next time it is needed it is pulled up from the cache itself thereby increasing the processing speed. nowadays it is built in to the processor itself. the larger the cache, the faster is your system. look at it this way:

processor<---> cache <---> RAM

hope this answered your query.

if u r talking about computer cache then it is small memory connected beteween CPU and main memory.CPU first read data from cache if it is found then process it,if not then it searches data in main memory and process data.
Cache memory is reqiured because it is very nearest to CPU.So the access time of cache is very less as compare to main memory.this one major advantage of cache because it reduce execution time.
