Well, in fact you can get rid of the problem.
Go for a manual one-time treatment called Atlasprofilax. The spine is set straight, and the pressure on the discs is distributed much better so they can recover in some time.
And it's really worth travelling far - at present, the treatment is available in California and Europe, costing around 200 Dollars. Good luck!

a herniated disk means the padding between two vertebrae is broken, exercise can NOT fix a herniated disk. Doctors "say" that stretching the muscles around the spine can help support your lower back and reduce pain but the physical activity required to do so may as easily exacerbate the condition as help it. Resist surgery as long as possible. Take pain killers only as a matter of last resort. When you finally have no choice but to take pain killers then it's time for surgery. An artificial disk or getting some vertebrae fused and you could be 99% normal in no time.

Maybe you shouldnt excersice just yet, just do some stretches, that will help out alot. Or if you must excersice then how about pilates, or yoga. They both are easy on the joints.

Research has shown that yoga is a great exercise for people with back pain. Just make sure you go at your own pace, listen to your body, and find a instructor that you are confident in.

Try taking a look at the book "Back Care Basics." It is beginner's guide to yoga aimed at reducing back pain. I believe there is a chapter addressing your specific condition. Good luck.

This really depends on YOU and the exact injury. You need to see an orthopedist and a physical therapist to determine what is best for you.
