I seriously need some help! I've completely run out of ideas how to transfer a 5GB attachment from my laptop to my computer. Is there any way to send it through some sort of e-mail domain? Right now I'm open to any ideas.

The above comments about networking, AIM, and MSN Messenger are helpful. Those that indicate that it can be done via email are incorrect. Most email services have between 2 and 10 megabyte (not gigabyte) limits on attachment sizes. (Hotmail--~2 mb, most others 5-10).

AIM and MSN also have file size limits (effective, not inherent--most will time out after a gigabyte or so--you may be lucky though).

The USB dual cable would work, but routers are almost as cheap these days and would also allow you to share your internet connection by creating a network.

No you can not send via email too large of an attachment, there are many ways you can transfer this file but it all depends what type of computers you have, First you can use a "flash drive" between the two computers flash drives at like a floppy disk but holds so much more space the sizes range from 512 mb to 8 gb. second you can burn the file to a DVD-R, I would recommend a Western Digital Firelite Hard Drive its a external hard drive that allows you to put any files to it at a very fast speed (requires usb 2.0 ports) the drive runs you $129 if its to expensive for your budget just buy it use it for what you need and return it before the return policy. good luck

ok here is the answer

there is a ulitity on your laptop and desktop computer

Files and Settings Transfer Wizard

you use a cable attached to both ends of the computers and use the program to send it over

use a file splitter program cut the 5 gb down 5 times that will make 5 1 gb files which most email services will send

and then use that program on the other computer to stitch them back together

if you can not send them in eamil just use a file hosting website that will upload the files for you

best one out there is http://www.yousendit.com
or http://www.sendover.com that will send over 2gb

No, 5 gigs is way to big for any email attachment. And if it could be done then it would take forever! your best bet is to get a Dual USB cable for transfering information between your PC and your laptop. Hope that helps.

Most e-mail servers have a limit on the size of an attachment, probably 10mb. Best to save it to a DVD then snail mail it.

No, not via email. You can always use AIM (AOL's Instant Messenger: http://www.aim.com )(it allows you to log into two different locations), add youself as your own buddy, log onto AIM on both machines, then transfer the file to yourself over AIM.

Of course, you can make sure both machines on your network are part of the same domain or workgroup and directly copy them over the network.

Impossible. You need to burn the file to a CD first, unless the two computers are networked together, then you can do it.
