It's important for infants to form attachments in their first three months. Moon help me I can't remember the term for it at the moment, but it's very psychologically important that babies become attached to their primary caregivers. It forms the basis for all their future relationships and interactions. If one isn't held and cared for enough they will form avoidant or ambivalent attachment styles. What you want is for them to feel secure and trusting of other people who enter their lives.

So no, holding an infant too much isn't bad for them. You do want to make sure to take care of yourself though. An infant crying isn't a temper tantrum, it's a communication tool. It's all they have to signal that they need something. When child gets older, coddling becomes more of an issue, but for infants...Nah. :)

This depends on your idea of too much, infants need to be able to explore the world around them even if this is only a small patch of floor. Infants also need to develop their muscles which cannot be done if they are held by an adult for all of their waking hours.

Yes. They think the world revolves around them. Put the kid DOWN once in a while. Also, YOU will go crazy.

no some people say it spoiles them but it really just makes them feel safe
