Not so sure myself either, but I love playing football (tackle football that is). LOL you sound alot like me, not a tomboy, not a girlie girlie or you could say i am both depending on my mood. LOL to get myself in trouble, I can do anything a boy can do, just better -- any chance you like racing too ... that is my other favorite past time, if only I still had my camaro. Just keep showing the guys you can compete on their level, you will win them over or kick their butts cuz they don't expect it ;-)

It is in all of us males, to be strong. It could be our ego. Just like a female needs for men to appreciate her for her intelligence, her beauty, etc. A man has these needs, too. He wants to be strong, brave, protective, etc. Thats why majority of males have a problem with women doing things that men have been doing since the beginning of time.
But, just look at how history has changed. When women first decided to join the military, guys were all mouthy about that, too. But now days, women in the military is very seldomly an issue.
I will say this, if you play football (I dont care what sex you are) do it because you love the game, not to prove yourself to the guys.

I think boys tend to typecast girls, just like many girls typecast boys.
Such typecasting and biases about people belonging to a gender, community, race etc. is common among humans.
My hypothesis is that these biases arise out of our need to 'generalise' ideas.
For instance, we all know that every person is unique, but it will be impossible for us to analyse every person we meet from a scratch. So we use readymade ideas about different groups like boys, girls, white people, black people, foreigners, rich people, poor people.
We tend to slot people we meet into such groups and expect everyone in one group to behave in exactly the same way.
Some people may think 'girls' as a group are generally not better than 'boys' as a group at most kinds of ball games.
You should not be upset about such opinions. Look upon this as a limitation of our biology. Just as we cannot fly by flapping our hands, we cannot analyse every person we meet. And we end up using biases in our thinking.
Often, bias is a good thing. Using biases gives us a quick frame of reference to work with, specially, when we don't know much about the person we are dealing with. Biases help us make a beginning and as we learn more about a person, we keep correcting our ideas and reducing our biases.
Many times biases can have very bad outcomes too. Like racism. So, it is important to recgonise our biases and not let it grow to a point where we harm other people.

i played high school football with a girl and while she wasn't as strong as some of the guys she worked hard and played a good technical game. she played left guard and while she was a little lacking when it came to ear-holing the linebacker when we pulled the guards for a sweep it was a personal thing and not indicative of the entire sex. as for getting dressed up for dances i think every girl worth her salt enjoys feeling pretty. that, from a male perspective is not bad.

LOL I used to play tackle with the neighborhood guys and I loved it. Even after I broke a finger! Guys think girls are so fragile and breakable... well let's see them bleed for a week at a time and push an 8 pound baby outta their bodies - we'll see who's tougher then!

Well, thanks for the stereotype. I play football. I've played against four girls in my career. Of the four there were three who just didn't understand the game, couldn't remember their plays, and honestly hit like a girl. But, there was one who was smart, played well, and would whoop your butt. Now, she was pretty too. I only say that becuase you don't have to be the sterotypical movie football girl type to be any good at the game. A smart, tough, hot chick can be good too!

We had a couple girls get on the football team when I was in high school. After a few days they both quit. I guess that they aren't used to being hit so hard.

Let me tell you, the more they can see that you aren't afraid to get a little dirty or play rough, the more they will be intrigued by you. Not all guys like the girly-girls. Sometimes they even have more respect for you. You just have to get past their inital shock. =)

Guys at your school think girls "shouldn't" play footbal because that is what they were taught to think. So, consider yourself an educator! Good luck!
