There are many things that differentiate us from the animal kingdom. There is little agreement among scientist but generally speaking we are self aware and we can make and use tools. Some chimpanzees can do the same but that is a whole other can of worms

Um..one thing here......YOUR an animal...we all are animals.....and with that said..nothing diferentiates per se'..but ill tell you..ive found a surprising number of humans doing things an animal wouldnt be caught dead doing...
I dont know an animal that will purposely toss a garbagebag of dirty disposable diapers out their car window on a nice country road in front of cornfields..and not only that..but continue to do it week after week after week...
I dont know any animal that is that disgusting.

Laughter, especially laughter in response to a joke told entirely with words.
No other animal acts like that. Not only do we laugh --but-- the sound of laughter is harder to fake than any other sound we make. So honest laughter builds society and trust -- I think humans are unique in this.

One of the problems we have is that we think about yesterday and tomorrow. Animals may be conditioned by the past but they live in the present!

Its not emotional feeling, or even intellectual thinking... It is the ability to communicate verbally and the ability for us to announce or thoughts. That is what seperates us, because it has been proven that monkeys, apes, etc.. do think collectively and rather intellectually at that.

I don't think it is an emotional barrier but rather a sense of spirit.

It's guilt. We, as humans, have the ability to feel guilty when we do something wrong.

Supposedly it is "sympathy", however many animals do indeed feel sympathy, so the point is really moot.
