I can't remember the name of the moving company I used to ship my furniture from Honolulu to Santa Clara, but I do remember that I (fortunately) bought the 'optional' insurance, which really paid off, because the movers ripped the leather on my sofa, and it cost over $800 to repair. The default insurance is not worth anything, because they only value each item according to its weight, and at a value per pound that is ridiculously low, as if you were shipping raw lumber or other bulk goods. So, if I had not bought the optional total coverage insurance, they would have valued my sofa at only, say 40 pounds at 50 cents per pound, and I would have only received $20 for the damage.

As it was, I hired a custom upholstery shop to repair the sofa good as new and sent the claim to the insurance company and the paid the entire bill.

Sorry I can't remember the name of the moving company or insurer, but it was 7 years ago. It was a Honolulu based company that specializes in moving between the islands and the mainland. Maybe "Island Movers" but that is just a guess. Good luck!
