Peat moss or pellets. Also, driftwood, once it has aged in a tank it will lower the ph. Yeah, the stuff in stores creates a yo yo effect. It's worse on the fish because it lowers it at first, but your filter gets rid of it. If you can avoid using carbon in your filtration system, that works. However, you'll have to do a lot of water changes. Are you trying to keep discus? Or, just get the ph below an outrageous range?

Feel free to contact me for further advice.

over time driftwood can lower pH. The other way to go is used RO (reverse osmosis) water in your water changes. Some people use all RO water - then have to add buffers so the pH will remein sdeady - and some use a mix of RO and tap water.

How high is the pH?

Most fish will acclimate fine to a higher pH - it's better to have a steady reading than swings and ou can get the swings using chemicals and sometimes even with driftwood.

Use soft water , it's more susceptible to pH changes. Filter through peat, this will keep it soft and lower the pH. Add vinegar, if you've got some trees nearby go get some leaves and drop it in the aquarium, this will create blackwater which will do the same job.
