Why is there always a fence around a cemetary????

I wouldn't necessarily call this a riddle, but there are multiple reasons. Some are more practical, such as keeping out grave robbers or simply marking off the property line. However, there are also superstitions, particularly relating to iron fencing, that would be applicable. Apparently, witches & ghosts are weak against iron, & can't pass through an iron fence, so the fence could contain the souls of the dead. There are not always fences around cemetery's. I have seen many without a fence.

To mark the boundaries of sacred ground. That way zombies, spirits,etc can't get out. It also serves a barrier to keep us from walking into open graves.

because people dying to get in or something to do with protecting people. It is know that many bad guy rape women in the cemetery, maybe that's why they put the fence....

If it is a black iron fence, then it is ward off the undead and werewolf type creatures. Romanian folklore, I think.

So people wont drive drunk and hit over all the gravestones. Also to keep out grave robbers.
