Add one cup of white vinegar to the washer each time you wash towels and washcloths...I know it sounds crazy but they come out softer each time. The stiffness comes from soap buildup and I guess the acid in the vinegar breaks it up. Don't forget your regular detergent too to make them clean. If you don't want to add vinegar and detergent at the same time try soaking the washcloths overnight in a bucket with a cup of white vinegar added and then launder them. By the way ...the vinegar leaves no smell in the washcloths or towels ..I use mine right in the washer.

Try this, add 1/2 cup of white vinegar or 1/2 cup of lemon juice to a gallon of water. Soak an hour or so, then dump the bucket into the washing machine and wash, using half the amount of detergent you usually use.

Add a cup of white vinegar to your rinse cycle. Vinegar removes the soap scum that just plain water won't. Works especilly well if you have "hard" water.

Are you hanging them out to dry on a clothesline??? If so, dry them in a dryer and if you already are using a dryer, use fabric softener.
