bottle and can deposits? I used to live in a state that did, now I don't and just throw them out. It makes me feel guilty, plus you can really notice the difference on the sides of the streets.

I totally agree! It's such a good incentive to turn them in and it reduces waste. I always feel like I'm getting some extra $$ when I turn cans in, even though it's really just a 'return' haha.

Well they should have. I certainly agree with you. Michigan, for one, has a ten cent bounty on every can or bottle. All the grocery stores, and carry out stores seem to be able to cope with the collections pretty well. And there are a lot of homeless people that actually make a pretty good living just collecting those rejects from the rest of the population that don't exactly agree with saving them. Hopefully the ten cent refund is not as much as the containers are worth, or it would be just another welfare scam that we don't really need just yet until the justification catches up with the times. Oh well, or so it seems to me.

They used to have deposits on 'glass' bottles when I was a kid. I made a bunch of money and there were no bottles laying in the streets. Its a great idea.

The bottles were taken back to the retailers who paid me the money and were picked up by the bottlers to be refilled when they made the next delivery.

It all died with the introduction of the plastic bottle.
