Depending on your mind set, all animals are easy to care for if that is what you want. For horse owners cleaning stalls is not a big deal, for fish folks, cleaning tanks is just part of owning a fish, dog owners exercise there pets. If you don't want the dirty jobs associated with owning a pet then don't get one. If people did mind the dirty jobs there would be no children. Even plants have to be watered and replanted occasionaly.

Other than fishes, they can get boring and they aren't that cheap to take care of , considering you have to buy a whole tank and pump and all those things to keep the tank clean. But i think the easiest pet to take care of is probably a chinchilla. They like to bite wood and climb around in the cage. The best thing about them is that the way they clean or "take a shower", is by putting this type of sand in a jar, you leave the jar in the cage, they will go in the jar and roll around to clean themselves. No training needed!

Cats. You feed them and change their litter and that's about it. You don't have to let them out of the house to use the bathroom, cleaning a litter box is much quicker than cleaning a fish tank or bowl. You can leave them alone without worrying about them using the bathroom all over the place or tearing up the furniture. They love attention, but they also love alone time. The only draw back is the shedding... but a lot of animals shed. Their life expectancy is anywhere from 10-20 years. And, I suggest getting two so they have someone to play with when you are gone.

A hamster makes a good pet, especially for someone not used to taking care of them.

They're friendly, able to live in a small environment, and fairly easy to take care of. Food, water and a hamster wheel and they are pretty well set to go.

Clean out their tank or cage every couple of weeks and they're happy.

Cats are the best. They clean themselves and go potty in a box. There is minimal work on your part and tons of love from your pet. You can't hug a fish. And who has time to potty train a dog?
