I had a hook on the wall and have pulled it off but the glue is still there. Any help would be much appreciated.

Getting Glue Off Walls

Goof-Off or
Goo-Gone.

But the odds are it won't work very well. Even if you get the glue off, there will be some excess "wear" from the rubbing and/or the chemical itself, which will thin out the existing paint.

most likely its sheetrock and it will not come off as the paper will tear. glue hooks are a disaster waiting to happen. nail hooks are better. you can take a single side razor blade and carefully take it off to not take alot of the sheetrock paper with it. then paint over it with any left over paint. no chemical or remover will get it off but damage the surface more.

if it's common household glue, try a mr clean magic eraser.
if it's especially strong glue, you're probably gonna remove some finish from the wall.
try acetone
