If your blood type is A...

Both your parent blood types can be A/A or A/O

NOTE: The inheritance of ABO blood types does not always follow such straightforward rules of inheritance...

If your father's blood type is O-, then your mother's blood type has to either be A+ or AB+ , no matter what. If you aren't totally sure about your dad's blood type, then these are the possible combinations:
1. A+ and A+
2. A+ and AB+
3. A+ and O+
4. A+ and B+
5. A+ and A-
6. A+ and AB-
7. A+ and O-
8. A+ and B-
9. A- and AB+
10. A- and O+
11. A- and B+
12. AB+ and AB+
13. AB+ and O+
14. AB+ and B+
15. AB- and AB+
16. AB- and O+
17. AB- and B+
18. AB+ and O-
19. AB+ and B-

Just know that you can not have two O parents, two B parents or two negative parents.

Blood type A + possibibilities may arise from the following:
1) Phenotype of both parents are A+ or AB+
2) Phenotype of one parent is A+ or AB+ while the other is O+
or B+.

From a personal standpoint I can tell you my son is A+ as am I, his father. His mother's blood type is O-.

I have no medical training and no explanations as to how this is determined or the odds or anything else, just anecdotal evidence.

Barring that you are correct that your father is O-, that significantly decreases the possibilities for your mother. She has to be either A+ or AB+. With the following genotype combinations below(Rh factor in parentheses):

AA(+/+) & OO(-/-)
AA(+/-) & OO(-/-)
AO(+/+) & OO(-/-)
AO(+/-) & OO(-/-)
AB(+/+) & OO(-/-)
AB(+/-) & OO(-/-)
