Of course it does. The domain must of course be resolved into an IP address. If you are browsing to a directory and fail to include the trailing forward slash, it must first check for a file by that name before moving onto the directory.

If it is taking much too long, and is only affecting Yahoo!, check your Internet connection, but also check for spyware or malware.

Scan your computer with an antivirus and use programs such as Lavasoft's Adaware and Spybot S&D amongst others.

Either your connection is slowed down, or else your RAM is full, or else you have spyware, adware, or some other adware.

First, if you're on dial-up, relax. Friday nights are high-traffic times, and your connection is bound to be slower. If you're on DSL, check with your service provider to see what the holdup is.

If your RAM is full, do Disk Cleanup. If you're using Windows, go to Start, then Programs, then Accessories, then System Tools, then Disk Cleanup. Follow the directions once the box appears, and empty all the Temporary Internet Files and other crap that is bogging your system down.

To check to see if you have spyware or other malware--if you don't already have anti-malware software--go to http://www.emsisoft.com/en/software/free/, download the free anti-malware software, and scan your computer.
