This question is open to Christians and non Christians alike.
I try to be a good person, but it’s not always easy. If some one hurts me I really want to hurt them back. I’ve never been in a physical confrontation, only verbal.
Have you ever turned the other cheek when you really didn’t want to? Was it worth it? How did you feel afterward?

Urbancoyote and others, I appreciate your advice, but I don’t really think you understood the question. I haven’t even mentioned forgiveness, which comes later. I was talking about avoiding vengeance at the time of the confrontation and the feelings you may have afterwards. Sorry If I mislead you.

Sure I have, didn't always want to, but some people are unreasonable and the best thing to do is walk away. Yes it is worth it, often if you walk away they realize how immature it was for them to behave that way.

You don't REALLY forgive UNTIL you have forgotten (which takes years). Pretending to forgive is a recipe for bitterness.
Jesus did NOT give his healing power to his believers. By imitating Jesus and pretending to forgive, you are asking for trouble.
Try to take the injury as a warning (and a bargain!) that warns you how you are vulnerable and can be hurt. Try to rearrange your habits and thoughts so that such injuries are far less likely. This will reduce the time it takes for you to forget. Although you won't remember and won't give yourself credit for it, once you've forgotten, you've forgiven.
It's hard, it takes a long time, but it works. If you SAY you forgive the injuring party and act like a martyr, you're gonna get ripped off again and become embittered. "Running for saint" like a politicians isn't gonna get you there.

Yes...I do all the time.
Forgive but don't forget. That's how you should deal with things. Try to avoid situations that will leave you vulnerable. Learn from your experiences.

The term "Forgive and Forget" is easier said then done. I can always forgive somebody for their actions, but I will never forget.

Yes, it was sort of worth it. In the short term, I was really mad that I didn't get even. But, in the long term I was glad that I took the high road.

Forgiveness is between them and God, my job is to arrange the meeting.

yes plenty of times.
As they swing to hit it, I duck, grab the wrist and twist it, then punhc them in the kidneys and kick their knee to bring them down.
In verbal confrontation, if I see an asshole, I turn around and leave - stinks, and there's nothing you can do about it.
