RAM is volatile. If it stops being refreshed by the processor, it completely "loses it's memory". All of the memory inside of your computer is volatile memory. Flash drives and flash cards, along with the BIOS chip on your motherboard are non-volatile memory, and don't ever need to be refreshed.

Random Access Memory is known as volatile memory. it is called so because when we turn off a computer all the files and data stored in it are lost. the data as such is volatile.
Apart from that, when we use a comp, each program we open is stored in the RAM.the comp uses this RAM for temporary storage of those data files of the program. once we close the program, the data stored would be lost if not saved. thus RAM is volatile.
