It grows gray. It's not so much gray as the folicle has stopped producing pigment. The shaft is essentially hollow and the environment, such as smoking, etc., can easily discolor it.

It grows in gray, hair is dead and doesn't change color on its own.

Grows in grey. But the hair follicle can begin going grey when the dark hair is still growing, thus you would have a hair that is half dark, and half grey. When that hair falls out and grows back (hopefully) it will be solid grey.

I think it actually turns gray...when you go out in the sun...it can lighten...and when you use heating tools (flat iron,etc) it can also lighten.

no it turns grey, as you age, ur ability to produce the color it takes to make your hairs color starts to slow down, there for it gradually turns grey or silver
