You know what works better then taking pills. Eating Dried Plums or drink Prune juice. It's natural, healthy for you, and can't hurt your baby! Plus they reallly really work!!!!

you cannot take over the counter laxatives while pregnant. Doing so poses a huge risk of dehydration to both you and the baby. If you are constipated talk to your doctor. She may suggest taking metamucil or another fiber filled supplement. I had the same problem when I was pregnant. She should give you some samples to try out to see which ones work the best.
good luck

I had the same concern and then realized that my prescription of cal-nate prenatal pills contained 50 mg of ducosate sodium. (After I had spent 30 minutes looking at every stool softener and laxative box to see if they would be safe for pregnant women). I believe that colace is the same thing, but you'd probably have to check the box to see. I asked my doctor about constipation and she said to eat more fruit, exercise and drink more water. I'd make sure and ask your doctor first and maybe even ask to get a prenatal pill that has it already in there. It's been a big help to me! I've given you the website for the prenatal pills so you can see that in the product insert lists the ingrediants and docusate sodium is one of them.

Colace is safe. It's on my list of approved meds that my doctor gave me when I got pregnant and was in one of the prenatal vitamin samples. Also on the list are Citrical fiber supplement, drinking extra water, and eating extra fruits & vegetables. She also said stool softeners in general are safe, but not laxitives like exlax. I don't remember what dulcolax falls under, but if it's a stool softener it's ok.

According to the Physician's Desk Reference, the safety of Dulcolax in pregnancy has not been established. In other words, ask a pharmacist or (preferably) your OB for their opinion. Generally, try not to use any medications!

You should consult your doctor, regarding taking any medication. A great natural home remedy that works miracles is eating papaya for breakfast.
Also, increase your fiber and water intake. Fruits and veggies will help your plumbing. If you are taking an iron supplement it could be the culprit, drink OJ with it, works great.

There are prenatal vitamins with a stool softener. That really helped me to get the little bit every day, and I knew it was safe. If you need something stronger, have your doctor recommend a stool softener. They're safer than laxatives.

No, take Philips Milk of Magnesia, it's natural so it's safe to take during pregnancy. It's in a big blue bottle. Good luck.

Fiber con was suggested. Also check with your doctor first. Make no mistakes that could harm you and your baby. So ask first before you take action.
