Unless you're (1) trying to give away our military secrets to them, or unless you're (2) trying to persuade them that you are the leader they want to be taken to (and then use their advanced technology to make yourself the leader) or unless you're (3) trying to warn them away from the greedy and rapacious Earthians who will buy their products and then infect them with horrible diseases like conquistadores, so that they never make contact with us, I doubt it.
In the case of the first two examples, the government would have to seriously believe in the existence of intelligent alien life forms before they would bother to prosecute you (provided that you didn't steal the military secrets in the first place). In the case of the third example, the government would have to be in preparation for actual diplomatic relations with a government of intelligent alien life forms in order to be able to charge you with doing something like that.
This does not mean, of course, that lots of conspiracy theorists and other loonies would not hate your guts for having betrayed Earth as they might interpret the events. And who knows? The goverment might just say, "Well, we can't do anything to provide protection for you unless someone actually tries something...." ...which would be the equivalent of a death sentence for you, at the hands of the loonies.
And they would quietly arrest the ones that did it afterward. Not that that would do you any good.
But if you just want to say hi, or ask how long they've been travelling, or trade recipes, sure go ahead. Knock yourself out.

It is not illegal to attempt to contact extraterrestrials, as long as you don't break any laws in your attempts. By that I mean you cannot violate trespassing laws, city ordinances, zoning regulations, etc. Sometimes, however, people who attempt to contact other-wordly beings are mocked by society, so I would suggest that you keep your attempts to yourself. My best friend says she has had several contacts with aliens since her childhood, and she is now referred to as "The Town Nut." She is not bothered by this, but you might be, so just be discreet.
