HOUSTON -- Chicago Cubs slugger Sammy Sosa recorded his 1,509th career RBI in the first inning Friday to tie Mickey Mantle for 40th on the all-time list.

Sosa drove in his milestone run in his 2,102nd game, hitting his 28th home run of the season off Houston's Pete Munro. Mantle did so in 2,401 games, all for the New York Yankees.

Sosa now has 567 career home runs, which is eighth on the all-time list. Next up is Harmon Killebrew at 573

Right now, it's a tie between Bagwell and Tris Speaker:

It's likely that Sheffield would have cracked the top 40 this season, but his injury slowed him down. Manny should be there before the end of the season, too.

The list given in the answer above me is from April of 2005, before Griffey moved ahead of several players, and Bagwell moved up to tie Speaker.
