Yes, in a way, I feel it is. You really ought to try to expand your horizons and grow out of music that is designed for teenagers. True, many will say I'm wrong. But what do I have to offer you that's different from the rest of these answers? I have a Master's Degree in Music, that's what. And I have years of experience in teaching people music. Trust me, the more you learn about music , the less you'll want to hear metal, which is repetitive and downright dull musically. There is SO much more out there that is better. Why spend all your listening time on one style? You're missing SO much that is good, and shamefully, so are SO many other people.
Think about it: You hardly get a CHOICE anymore. Everywhere you go , it's pop and rock. Metal not as much - but it's part of the whole fad oriented music "industry" - tis a packaged product, a piece of plastic for ten bucks.
Try some J.S. Bach or Beethoven- I bet you'll love it. Esp Bach- his music is very active.

Ask Ozzy Osbourne. Honestly, it's only immature if you're trying to use metal to prove you're still 18. Most people that I know that listen to metal or any of the so-called "young people only" music do it because they like it. So, don't worry about swapping out your metal for Celine Dion.

Let's see..metal was very popular in the early 80s...over 20 years ago...so a 20 year old metal fan from 1982 would now be 44.

I doubt all those people gave up Metallica for Kenny G.

Go to a low rent bar any night of the week and you will see lots ov sleazy old geezers rocking out.

Too old to rock n' roll? Too young to die? Who knows.

Why would it be immature? Metal music has been around for a long time. Just because you get older doesn't mean you have to change your taste in music. I love all kinds of music, from Metallica to Tool and NIN to Muse, and I'm a lot older than you are.

It might be considered immature if that's all you do - sit there like a zombie and listen - but if you just have it on while you are working, driving, etc I don't think it's immature. I still love rock and I'm in my 40's!

Did you think that by the time you hit 30 you would start enjoying classical or laxative jazz or something? Anybody of any age can enjoy any music anytime. My mom is 56 and she loves Metallica and Korn as well as Elvis and soundtracks from musicals. Not only do I think that's adorable, I think it RAWKS!!
