2k6 is the year "2006".
"k" it the symbol for the metric word "kilo" which means "thousand". It's used in measurements like "kilometer".
It came about in the year 2000. They were calling it the "Year 2K" meaning the year "2000" or "Y2K".
As each year continued, we just kept adding the next digit.
Next year is 2k7. Got it, babycakes?

People often refer to John Madden Football (a video game) by the year that is on the cover (e.g. 2K6). John Madden 2K7 should be coming out very soon (if it isn't out already).
