You Europeans state American healthcare system is awful but we actually have the best one in the world. We have to work for our healthcare unlike you lazy welfare europeans.

I've worked in hospitals all over the place and met a lot of medics and nurses from all over the world. While your best hospitals are excellent and the staff work very hard to maintain and improve standards, parts of the US health system need a radical overhaul. Whilst in the States I met a couple who were trying to treat their child's measles with over the counter drugs. Not good.

In actual fact in the UK we do pay for Health care and Welfare. We have a thing called National Insurance which is deducted from salaries at source.

I used to think just like you, until I married a European and spent a little time in a Swiss hospital. America has one of the worst health care systems in the world- Under the current system, it's a house of cards doomed to collapse.

*In Europe (and Canada) everyone gets healthcare, whereas in the United States there are 41 million uninsured. The unfortunate side effect, is that the uninsured are the most in need of health care, due to their financial status.

The financially challenged are less likely to have routine check-ups, dental care, vision care, and other prevention. As a result, disease lies dormant and manifests itself expensively, triggering more financial instability, continued lack of insurance and eventually more disease. Its a snowball effect.

Meanwhile, physicians are being treated to week-long cruises and vacations at expensive spas thanks to pharmaceutical companies. (my uncle is a doctor and goes on these excursions all the time). Unfortunately, my Grandma (on the other side of the family) suffers from diabetes and can't afford her insulin.

The system is terrible. Without reform, our country will have a severe health crisis. Socialized medicine sounds expensive and backwards to me too, but it is in reality much better than our currently lurking catastrophe!

You are generalizing a little, since not all Europeans have government provided health care. For example, Germans are mostly covered by their employeers, although almost all employeers are required to provide health insurance. If you think Americans who work should have health insurance, then the Germans would appear to have a better system since all workers get coverage.

I have worked since I was 16 years old, and I'm 35 now.

I don't have health insurance through my job, and I can't afford it on my own.

I can't take care of my health, because I can't afford to. I'm healthy, but I just hope that I'm not developing cancer, because I wouldn't know about it until it killed me.

I'm not alone in this, "the best healthcare system in the world" is actually unavailiable to most folks who live here.

I completely disagree that US has best health care system.
Actually it is Canada and Germany and Great Britain.
Where did you get such asinine information as to think our profit minded hospitals and doctors give a sh't about patients?
From Fox News probably.
Actually mistakes made in hospitals and by doctors in the US are the 3rd leading cause of death in the US. This is partially due to the 'I am God' syndrome and the rest is due to 'desire for profit and money and power is the root of all evil'.

... IF YOU CAN AFFORD IT...

if you can't... you're screwed...

so, it's only the best in the world, for about 20 percent of Americans...

in other words, it's not the best system in the world for the majority of the people in the country... which would mean, it's not the best system in the world...

I seriously doubt you could afford to go in the hospital with out insurance.. and I also would be willing to bet you're lazier than most Europeans...

I assume you haven't done your research at all.

Actually, Canada and Western Europe have the best healthcare system.

One day, when you are broke, divorced, and dying of cancer, you will feel the effects of your great American health care system, so much that your great grand-children will still be paying off your debts to the Mayo clinic.

Cheers!

WE may have the best health care, But its entirely too over priced! I work in a health care setting, and I know that just in my hospital they charge $3,000.00 for just a C.T., and $6,00 for a banaid. that's a little outrageous don't you think. And Yes I'm an American But I'm willing to bet there are more lazy people here in America than there are in Europe.

Your kidding right? Socialized medicine is the answer but America will never pass it.

The FDA is in the business of making money with the big prescription companies.
