I got a usb cord for my phone from the internet and it works and everything but they didn't send me any software for it. I tried downloading that bitpim program but it doesn't regonize my phone when it's plugged in. My phone is an LG vx6100. Someone help me?

go to the website of the phone manufacturer and look for accesories, then look for the sofware link and download the software based on the cable you have. some programs needs a specific cable to work on the phone, that happend to me with the nokia. I had to specified wich cable I was using in order to get it work, If this doesn't work, try switching to the other cable if provided

If that USB dongle is Chinese ..then the standard drivers might just not work.
As per my experience in nokia's DKU-5 cable .
The software drivers provided with original cable DO not work for the chinese dongle. So in order to get that cable to work , I had to install the drivers exclusively from the CDrom that came along.
You will need the vendor's CD/software since it's exclusive for that USB dongle manufacturer brand/type
So....try to find out that ! and its going to be nextto impossible to do that.....so best of luck!
Please NEVER EVER BUY a USB CABLE without softwares !
