The best horror movies of all times are the first four halloween movies, particularily halloween and halloween 2. The music alone is very very creepy. This series preceded all the freddies and jasons. This was the first movie to terrify people to the bone.

Well what is the definition of horror? The one and only scene that made me jump was Ben Gardner's head bobbing out of the hole in his boat in the movie Jaws. The first movie to give me nightmares as a kid...King Kong (original 1933 ish) (no I didnt see it back then LOL). Horror movies that I found comical (more laughs than scares) Exorcist and Theater of Blood. The freddie movies I only saw the first one. The Halloween movies I have seen them all. Salem's lot was good.
The best continuity of any character (not really part of the answer) Freddie - On an old "Alice" TV show, where Vera brings a shetland pony into the diner from a "cruel trainer" at a circus. The trainer is Robert Englund and he is wearing the hat, pants, sweater and jacket that he wears in the Elm Street movies. And this was years before the fright movies came out.

Yes! Yes! that is a good one, especially the Rob Zombie version! I am in my 40's and I sat here really trying to think of the best of all time and that is just too hard to narrow down. I have seen so many good ones over the years. To me, really scary is something that could really happen. Not stupid like blood coming out of the walls! As of late some good ones are the SAW movies and Hostel was pretty freaky!!! You know there are demented people in this world who would really do stuff like that! Now that's a horrible, super scary thought!!!!!!

The first film to ever scare me was 1951's The Thing From Another World. But the best movie of all time is The Exorcist.

Well, on the one hand, The Ring was definitely the scariest movie for me. But the most well-made horror movie I've ever seen was probably the original Psycho. Great suspense.

The Exorcist still ranks as the scariest in my book.
There's a websight that ranks movies and the Exorcist was one of 3 that got a 10.

The Evil Dead. The first time I saw this movie, I was scared for days. And years later I still can't watch it alone or at night.
