I actually had to perform minor surgery on myself when the doctor was afraid to damage my finger further while trying to run a hook through my fingernail, under the finger bone and back through the nail to get a gauze through for a drain to get the infection out. I had enough Novocaine in my finger after awhile that enabled me to run it through myself and finish the process for him.

I am sure I could operate on myself if it was a life or death situation. I would probably do much better on the death situation because I'm not very experienced on the life situation kind of operation so I would probably end up like very dead.
I wouldn't cut off any limbs, I need them to ride my bike and I would rather die than be unable to ride the bike.
Well maybe not, maybe I would just lie there until I lost weight and my foot came out from between the rocks. Then I would climb down the mountain and head for McDonalds to regain the weight.

That's a pretty drastic thing to do and one hopes that 1-Never will have to do this 2.if I did then I'd be able to. This is one of these situations where could we or not could only be determined until we were actually in this situation. People who are able have a really strong desire to live and that desire ,the will to survive, would then take over.

Linux, and Aplle, have a lot of loose and open source application, so that you gained't fairly favor to purchase any new stuff. I cut my left hand pretty deep while I was deployed to Southwest Asia in 99'. Since I WAS the "doc" in the unit I was attached to, I cleaned it up with some peroxide, numbed it up with some lidocaine, and closed it with some 4-0 Prolene sutures.

I heard about that guy...it's an amazing story!
In all dead seriousness, I absolutely would operate on myself if the circumstances and situation warranted. I have children and I owe to them to do whatever I can within my power to try to survive for them. If that meant I had to go through horror and torture and pain of all kinds, I'd do it.

I think that I would be able to. I grew up with alot of my family members being doctors and nurses. They taught me how to take care of myself. My mom taught me how to give myself stitches. I am not squemish at the sight of blood, and I like to disect things, so yeah I could probably do it. The only thing that would get to me is the pain, but I think that I could bear it.

That needs the maximum stamina...
you wouldnt know if you have that unless faced with a situation like that...when a situation like that comes, even a meek person can do all miracles...
and a person considered strong willed may pass out...it all depends...

yes, i think i could. and the story you mentioned - i read the book the guy (whose name is aron ralston) wrote. it's pretty freaky, but it proves that self-surgery is possible and survivable even in the absence of professional guidance. so yeah, i could do it, unless of course both arms were trapped etc.
