Why do we hate? Is it instinct or something we learn? Is it the need for revenge when someone or something has wronged us? Or is it because we are ignorant about something or someone?

I think it is anger and frustration of the exigent environment impinging on the subject wound up with his affinity or love for the other that is hate. I don't think that hate is always that which is the prime mover of violent action. Much of that seems to be a de-humanization. And when you do so, like slaughtering an animal that you conceive as a robot, you feel no feelings of righteousness, guilt, or remorse.

Hate I have felt most centrally for people closest to me, my friends who do stupid things-- and I care for them, and wish that they would NOT do it, because it detracts from our friendship and affiliation. I can not endorse people in public that lack strength. It is their weaknesses I hate. But it is also a cowering and self-hatred that causes such anger. Because I am not able to influence or communicate to them properly. And I loathe my inability-- my lack of strength and wherewithal to address the problems.

This is not to say I don't hate various peoples I don't know so intimately. I do, because I care for them. And I cannot help but feel anger towards myself, my inability to affect change. It is not something that simply goes away with stoicism. It is an aspect of myself, my humanity, and I don't wish to castigate it as subpar and "mentally ill" when I can be motivated by it, work to change myself by it, reflect and see how it helps to understand, rather than excommunicating it as a base, subterranean force of Id, unsuitable for compassionate humans.

Hate is the passion expressed when someone truly hurts us, generally I find the more the person hates the other person the more they really love or loved that person. As far as hating people we don't know based on their religion, sex, race whatever, that's just fear and ignorance, and unacceptance of someone who isn't like us, and is honestly more about self hate than our true feelings about an individual person. I wish I could explain it, because maybe if I could I would know a way to stop it, and I would win the nobel peace prize for stopping all wars and whatnot. But I honestly know better, there will always be hate in the world, and that makes me sad.

We hate because we do not understand, we are afraid, we feel threatened, or all of those!

Ignorance often plays a big part in hate. People tend to be leary of the unknown....afraid of what they can't see or of something different.

I think it's a defense mechanism that is learned while growing up and is used as a way to keep the adrenalin pumping when you feel threatened by someone or something.

It is instinct. If someone were to murder our kin...we would be wise to seek revenge. This way we even out the gene pool. I am over simplifying but I am drunk. If you think hate is not natural and can look at the world around you and watch five seconds of the news...you have issues.

We hate so that we can learn not to. I know that sounds backwards, but sometimes we have to experience the negative in order to grow to the positive. I believe our purpose here is to learn and grow, so I think some people are hateful as part of their learning process.

It's a form of emotion, and just like any emotion it can get out of control. Some people have trouble contolling it. Some people don't. Depends on who you are. But it's most certainly a powerful thing.

It s something we learn as we grow...as we grow older the list of things we hate becomes longer...but the same,it lessens in your old age...when you start understanding that hatred never pays...
